Growing followers on X
The parts of X's code that touch follows.
- Follow author +4.0. Predicted chance the viewer follows you after seeing the post. param.rs
- Mutual follows.
BidirectionalFollowReplyWeightBoost = 15.0. The name suggests replies weigh more between accounts that follow each other uncertain. - Small accounts get a lift. New-author boost for authors below an impressions threshold; cold-start params include a follower cap of 50,000 uncertain.
- Out-of-network discount. Posts from accounts the viewer doesn't follow get multiplied by a factor below 1. Followers see you with less discount. The factor isn't in param.rs uncertain.
- Credibility. user-cred-v2 runs PageRank over the follow graph and engagement edges (2023: Tweepcred).
- Who to Follow is added by the blending pipeline, separate from post ranking.
What it means
- Make posts that make a stranger want more, like a clear niche or a series. That's the follow prediction.
