Timing on X
What the code says about freshness. No made-up "best time to post".
X's code has no "best hour to post". It does have hard time windows.
The facts
- 48 hours.
AgeFilterremoves posts older than 48 hours from For You. README Filtering - SimClusters candidates:
simclusters_max_candidate_age_hours = 48. param.rs - Seen once, gone.
PreviouslySeenPostsFilterandPreviouslyServedPostsFilterdrop posts a viewer has already been shown. - New-author boost. Posts from authors whose impressions are below a threshold get lifted toward a target position (README). Related params:
cold_start_impression_threshold = 200,cold_start_follower_cap = 50000,cold_start_max_post_age_secs = 7200(2 hours). How exactly they combine isn't traced here uncertain. - Author diversity. Each extra post by the same author in one feed is multiplied by a decaying factor. Posting 10 times in an hour doesn't give you 10 slots.
What it means
- Post when your audience is awake: the window is short. Your own analytics tell you when that is. The code doesn't.
- Reply to conversations while they're fresh. See How to Reply.
- Spread posts out instead of bursting.
